The radio operator was the rearward driver for the S103. Supposedly the S103 could
go the same speed in either direction.

Something else to consider. The short wheelbase, or should I saw track base, and
wide stance on the S103 will make it an easer turning model. Turning in place is a
real challenge for these things.

Hi!

No harm inteneded but I would like to clearify that the S 103 tank is SWEDISH, not
Swiss. Switzerland is where they make the watches and have the nice tax levels,
Sweden is were Volvo, Saab, Roxette etc comes from and the taxes are among the
highest in the world. And yes, the S tank comes with a earth mover and has like you
already pointed some advantages when used from concealed firing places. However, my
friend did his military service as driver one of those tanks and he says that the S
tank clearly is one of the worst tanks ever produced with respect to offensive
capabilities, not being able to fire while moving. Not being able to fire unless
having the whole vehicle pointing in the direction of the enemy obviosuly has some
disadvantages, so to overcome this they actually are fitted with dual drive
controlls, so that hte gunner(or was it the commander, not sure) can sit backwards
and drive the tank backwards with full visiblity! Also the fixed pipe has a number
of disadvantages when it come to moving over terrain. They had to go 45 degrees over
ditches/trenches as they otherwise would dig the pipe into the wall on the opposing
side, among others. Nowadays, what's left of the Swedish Defence Forces drives
Leopard2A5, a much better tank than the S and the Centurions previously used.

So, this is not meant to to in anyway take away your entusiam for your project, I
think it is a great project, especially with the suspension system being an
interresting challenge.

Just wanted to clearify the Swiss/Sweden thing. Good luck with your model and please
post pictures of the tank as soon as you have some available.

Best regards

Fredrik

The Swiss 103 comes with a earth mover. The idea is that when a tank is not moving
it is buried up to the turret, so that only the gun is exposed. That would give
about a two inch target on my tank. Hmmmmm, Has anyone thought of building 1/6
scale houses, bridges and other items that would make it a little more interesting?
The houses could be shells of buildings that were hit by bombs

Has anyone given thought to tank tactics? Different formations used while on the
move. How to set up a tank ambush. You know the good stuff.
