R/C Tank Combat

Gettysburg 2008

Battle #2 Summary

Scenario - Kelly's Heroes Casino Heist
In the second battle, the roles would be reversed and the Townies would now be given a chance to steal the gold themselves.

Team Selection
To keep the sides balanced, Will's SU-100 was randomly selected to switch sides (despite the fact that the Cromwell volunteered to switch sides ... as always). Also, after frantically working for 30 minutes to keep everyone at bay in the first battle, Paul decided to hand the controls of the Navarone over to Sean Marlow and drive the Mule/Goer instead.

Kellys Heroes
Steve Tyng (Cromwell), Doug Conn (Tiger), Sean Marlow (Navarone), Paul Pittelli (Mule, Goer), Joe Sommer (X2)

Townies
Frank Pittelli (Tiger), John Pittelli (Comet), Will Montgomery (SU-100)

Battle Summary
Fresh off their victory defending the town, the Townies now focused on penetrating the new defenses and stealing the gold for themselves. They would "attempt" to encircle the town and attack simultaneously from 3 different directions, in hopes of overwhelming the defenders and escaping with the gold in the confusion. Sean moved the Navarone into the center of the town, which gave him a good firing angle to defend the casino, but would also allow the attackers to get closer to town.

When the battle started, the SU-100 took up it's favorite position in the open field, shelling the Navarone Gun and the supply vehicles. Due to the Navarone's location, Will was able to position himself deeper into the field, hidden from the Navaron's field of view by the barn, allowing him to destroy more supply vehicles than in the first battle. Nonetheless, the Navarone was still well supplied with paint and needed to be silenced. To that end, the Comet and Tiger made it their primary mission to silence the Navarone. The Comet crept in close to the front of the town, once again using the buildings to shield itself from the Navarone. The Tiger took up a position in it's favorite spot ... in the trees just outside of town. With a keen eye on the Cromwell at all times, the Tiger and Comet would take every opportunity to line up artillery guardsmen, along with the SU-100. With precision firing from all three attackers, the Navarone guards were retired not once, but twice during the battle, silencing the deadly gun for a few short minutes each time.

While guardsmen were dying, Doug's Tiger and Steve's Cromwell were entrenched in the back part of town, waiting for the attackers to attack. They took turns reloading paint and otherwise didn't leave their posts ... disciplined defenders are tough to attack. Between the tanks and the Navarone, any attempt to go into the middle of town would be suicide, with a 3-way cross fire waiting. But, suicide is painless and both the Comet and Tiger would take their turns probing the defenses. They would die a total of 3 times making attempts to push deep into the town. In one such attempt, the Comet burst into town in an attempt to snatch the gold and tangled with the Cromwell in close quarters. The Tiger then burst into town when the Navarone was shooting in the other direction at the SU-100, and thought it got the final shot on the Cromwell, only to learn that the Steve and John were discussing the results of their shootout (which required an immediate timeout to resolve the issue). With the Comet declared destroyed, the hit was nullified on the Cromwell and battling resumed ... with the Tiger now in a death zone. Within seconds of resuming, before Frank could even figure out what to do, paintballs rained in from all directions and the Tiger was dead.

The attackers chatted a little when they got back to home base. With 10 minutes left in the battle and the defenders sitting there waiting, a different approach was needed. Silence the Navarone, hit the Cromwell for the 4th time and overwhelm the Tiger ... the one-two-three punch should do the trick. Amazingly, the coordinated attack went off without a hitch ... the SU-100 took the Navarone out of the game, the Cromwell had gun problems and took itself out of action, and a little Tiger-on-Tiger action resulted in the original Tiger (T001) purring like a kitten. The Comet blew open the casino door, grabbed the gold and took it to home base to claim the mission points for the team.
