When I tried this system, the long, unsupported pins bent because of leverage and that was only with a rubber, much lighter track.   Mathew's system will work fine with a thicker wheel in the middle that allows little leverage on the pins. It is overall a good system if you can find rubber belts that are 1.5 -1.6 m. long or longer. One meter long cloth reinforced belts like these cost 40 euro each and , together with 3 mm bolts, run my Tankette for about 6 months.
