It seems like there are lots of hobbyists building robots that can find their way across terrain, with waypoint navigation, obstacle-avoidance algorithms, etc., and another large group of hobbyists building so-called combat robots, which are actually remotely controlled, not autonomous. But I don't know of anyone building autonomous robots that can fight each other.
