Title: Re: speed controllers [TANKS]
Mike suggested the Sidewinder
from Robot Power, any other suggestions under $410???

Tom

Have also known someone that blew their RS80 and they also changed to a sidewinder.
The RS80 seems old style today due to its very large case, multiple layers and its not really a complete 3 channel controller.
Have some suggestions that might suit some of you.

There is a product made locally here in Melbourne that is also sold at the Robot Market place. I know the builders of the product personally as they have been involved in the sport of robot combat locally.
Anyways some of you might want to have a closer look at an esc called the IBC (Integrated bot controller).
Its not a high output controller, only 50 amps but if you are running scooter motors at 24 volts then it really suits well.
Its a single board thats easy to repair if u blow fets, would not recommend running EVs with but like I said scooter motors work great on it.
It also has a third channel that will control relays in 2 directions so its a true 3 channel.
In Australian Dollars its about 315.

Another controller thats also an option for scooter motors is the scorpion XL.
THis is a very very small controller. its the sidewinders little cousin made by the same people. Its only a 12 amp controller but thats what a 200 watt scooter motor needs.
You could get 2 of these controllers and add a mixer (buddy deal is about $200) and use one on each side.
The 2 channels on each unit can be merged together so you end up with a 24 amp controller. Have tested these controllers myself  and if you are using scooter motors they are cheap solutions.
A scorpion XL would be also well suited to use in a turret due its its size so buying one at 100 bucks to test will not dissapoint you.
Anyways do some reading if your interested on these products, it might suit some of you.
