How does this work? I am new to model engineering (ie models that work as opposed to models that look pretty) and I'm having difficulty working out drives and gears and things. You appear to have about a 4" coach bolt going through a wooden block, then there is the sprocket, then you go through the hull, then there is the final drive sprocket.

Do you use bearings in the wooden block and the hull wall? Are they ball-races or is there a simpler alternative? The inner sprocket appears to be keyed to the coach bolt. Is the final drive sprocket attached to the thread by "squeezing" it between 2 bolts?

If its no good ,it will be my new one gear drive system.
Im yet to build the gear selecter ,it will consist of two spinning ply wheels ,turning athin belt .
None of this might work , whoknows?
