Considering the one way bearing will be used to drive the one particular 
direction each of the gears, it could not be internally modified to be used 
both directions, we use the same sort of transmissions/gearboxes in R/C 
cars/trucks and you would have to have an external device to be able to 
reverse the transimission, these 'reverse gears' are notorious for failing 
and we usually remove them because if it goes into reverse and the 
transmission is going forwards, boom :-). Have seen a 6mm hardened shaft in 
a 1/10th scale (nowhere near the load of a tank) bent at 40 degrees.
Check out the two speed transmissions in 1/8th scale gas cars - say Serpent 
or Mugen brand, one of these could be modified easier i reckon, you guys are 
quite inventive.
