Whilst musing on my infantryman problem I came up with an idea that was effectively a landmine: Set up a tripwire (or rubber tube operating a pressure switch). The tripwire when activated sets off a spring-loaded paintball. This can be in a bazooka pointed by an action figure if you wish, or you can just have the  spring device like a poacher's trap.
 
Less simple than simply scattering paintballs though.
 
Another one I heard of for full-size paintball was this: Get an old paint tin. Put a small quantity of emulsion paint in it. Beg/borrow/steal a thunderflash (a blank grenade as used by the military for manaeovres). Bury the thunderflash with the tin on top, set off to operate by a tripwire.
 
Not sure what Health & Safetly would think abut that one....

i was just asking for the ones that get left behind if they where to be painted to be hidden landmines and never used/found
