If the #40 attachment chain resembles the drawing below (except for
the attachment flanges of course :-) then try this; this does it for me all the
time, and I don't have a chain breaker.
Grind the small forged tab off, flush with the side of the chain plate.
Then just punch out the shaft. No harm done to the chain if done
carefully.
