Yes, indeed there are some inconsistencies in the level of completeness
for some of the tanks with official designations. In the first couple
years of the hobby, we basically handed out designations to anyone who
could spell "tank" properly (granted, that left out quite a few of our
members :-) Our goal was to encourage people to build tanks and show
them off, and we assumed that they would actually complete them.
We slowly realized that many tanks were started, but few actually made
it to completion. So, starting sometime in 2004, we began requiring
tanks to have a "rolling chassis" in order to be designated. We know
that once a tank can drive around on it's own power, it has a far
greater chance of becoming fully operational and, hopefully, actually
battling.
When Reg came along, we saw lots of great work, with plenty of pictures
and details, so we created the "pending" index so people could see the
work in progress even before it was officially designated. Reg truly
has a great looking tank and we have all the confidence that he'll
complete it. But, he simply needs to install motors, hook up a battery
and drive it around to receive an official designation.
By the way ... when are the Northern Barbarians actually going to hold
your first battle? There was some talk of an event over a year ago,
but no paintballs were ever broken. Our vast viewing audience is very
interested in reading about and viewing acts of battlefield bravery and
heroism from battles outside of the Maryland Attack Group sphere of
influence :-)
An official designation is not the "goal", it's simply the first step
towards the total bliss that comes from covering another person's tank
with paint!!!
