They say that they are only good for NiCd or Numh batteries, but is there any reason anyone knows about that I couldn't run them from an SLA? I Emailed the seller twice, but get no response from the seller with regards to that question.

You would have no problems running those ESCs from SLA batteries.
The reason they mention NIcad and Nimh is because they mention number of cells, Probably because maybe SLAs are too heavy for a boat but either way there would not be a problem. 10 cells of NIcads fully charged would have a voltage up to about 15 volts. A 12 volt SLA fully charged is probably around 14 at guess but less than its Voltage limit.
