Title: Re: 1/12 scale M41 [TANKS]
Tanks guys,
To answer your questions, firstly Jeremy, yes they are all screen grabs. When I first got it together the first thing I did was to make a ramp and jump it 20 times in 10 minutes to test it. If u look closely you will notice that some of the wheels have dropped because of grub screws coming loose.
Still have the footage but its not that good, in a couple of weeks when this new body Is done will be doing the same from a higher ramp so expect a video in near future, and yes there will be plenty of craziness.
The drive sprockets and tracks are of my own design using No 35 roller chain and 18 tooth sprockets. They work a treat and are very tough, at 1/12 scale they weigh 1.5 Kilos each, 3 inches wide and 12mm thick without guides.
The motors are 100 watt scooter motors drawing 6 amps at 24 volts, yes 6 amps. They cost 22 aus dollars each. I deliberately set things up so I can stall the motors for ages without blowing anything.
At Chrys Hi again, length is a foot and a half and guessing the body weighs at about 18 or so kilos without turret.
You are correct about the green stripes, they are hack saw blades and and are a very good way to have torsion suspension for a few dollars. I changed to rods only because of the difference in the size of my arms to the blades. The grub screws joining them kept coming loose.
For larger tanks 1/6 etc hacksaw blades would suit as they are 1/2 inch in width so attaching them to a half inch rod of your arm is very easy, simply grind a flat on the end, drill a hole, tap a thread or just use a nut and bolt with a washer and presto.
To get more tension you simply add more layers. (or shorten length) I had up to 4 plyed together with ten arms but with tigers, panthers and maybe leopards you would use less as you have more arms.
In hindsight when it had 18 arms it was incredibly stable.
I really wish it was bigger so I could get a designation on your site and post my ideas and a build report, dont know where to put a build report up yet because of its size. Any suggestions anyone.
Here is a link to a tiger restoration project with some very nice detailed pics. Donšt know if this is new information or not but its pretty cool regardless.
Avoid pages 13. 21 and one other (maybe 20, cant remember) , those pages freeze up for some reason
