I understand your question now.

Don’t just tap the minus key but hold it down and the ruler will become more transparent.

Same with the plus key to make it darker.

that's pretty cool! let me know if you can figure out how to make it more transparent. I must be missing something. I tried the "-" above and on the key pad and well as clicking on the shift key and the crtl key and still nothing ............ the ruler is to become more transparent, right?
