I have an RS80D also, but I'll I have done with it is functionality testing with my motors and R/C gear.

I'm using the Tri-Pact controller, but with an anvilus MRC instead of switches and diodes.  Its pretty straightforward, but maybe not the first thing to tackle on your vehicle.
 
btw, Frank, Joe, Steve, had the RS80D earned a place in the Speed Controller Review?
