I think I finally figured out how to design a multiple "rocket"
launching system for a katyusha, nebelwerfer, panzerwerfer, etc.  Chris
B.'s homemade canon got my mind working and I'm pretty sure I solved
the last part of the puzzle.  Here it is: a CO2 cylinder releases air
through a regulator into a large accumulator.  The accumulator is
shaped much like a pipe manifold (long chamber with several nozzles
opening out of the side).  Attached to the accumulator's nozzles are
air hoses that run to the multiple firing tubes (3/4" PVC tubes).  What
they actually connect to are solenoid valve/vacuum solenoids (one for
each tube).  All of the solenoids are connected to the same circuit
that is closed by the "firing" servo.  Until today I could not think of
how to fire the tubes, but I through the magical world of the internet
I learned all about solenoids, and the problem seems solved!  However,
now the trick is to find several (5-10) such solenoids that are not too
expensive...any ideas?  I've been doing a lot of online searching, but
nothing has jumped out at me yet, so I figured I'd seek some
suggestions.

Also, no one has answered my velocity question yet, so I thought I'd
throw it back out...is there a certain fps that is required?  Does
someone bring a chronometer, or is it like an honor system thing?

Finally, as a side note, I was so excited about the solenoid thing that
I had to tell someone, so...I told my wife and her response simply was
we have a baby before I get to start another project after the
'Picacho'.  So I guess I'll try to motivate my dad or brother to take
up this project...

just saw i never read this yet.........

when i was in the sub committee report, one of the guys there made a launch system for the torpedoes in his sub. i'm still trying to remeber it, but i know the mechanical part (part of it) was nothing more than a short mounted shaft that had lobes mounted to it, and as the servo arm moved, it made the shaft turn

the lobes and the shaft where both brass. the lobes where nothing more than sliced from a larger, solid brass rod and holes drilled into them in one corner area then they where mounted on the shaft. the finished thing looked like a car cam shaft (well, that's what it was basicly).

now if i recall, the lobes triggered some sort of valve (not sure how that all was now).

i just wish i could remeber more of it, but then that was about 7 or 8 years ago when i saw it........... hope the basic idea is of some help.
