I think I read somewhere that it can, but only temporarily. Steering is
accomplished by using hydraulics between the compartments in the
articulated area, so I assume the 1st car cannot be run effectively by
itself. I guess there is some type of braking system to accomplish
temporary steering when they are detached, but I'm not sure. I'll keep
looking...
