You also want to take the time to consider the type of modulation the receiver and transmitter use when selecting the compatibility of the two. Some trans/receivers use PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) and some don't. Usually radios that can do PCM can also handle doing non-PCM operation. You can see an explanation of what I'm trying (badly) to say:
