Subject: receiver question 1: powering [TANKS]

While testing out my turret I noticed that my receiver was powered up regardless of the state of the switch (controlling the 4.8v pack).

The set-up is that I have a 12v battery driving the rotate and elevate motors.  The rotate is using a scorpion mini.  The elevate is using one channel of the MRC controller.  The receiver has its own 4 cell battery pack.

After successfully rotating and elevating for a while, I turned the system off (not sure of the exact sequence as I did it many times).  When I brought it back it wouldn't respond.  Powering on and off in different sequences gets it working and once its working it doesn't fail, BUT when I turn off the switch between the receiver and the 4.8v pack it keeps working!  I figure I'm on the verge of blowing something up and I'll have to recheck everything, but I thought I'd ask for pointers first.  Is the receiver drawing power back from the servo leads?  If so isn't that at 12v? and have I damaged anything?

Btw, here is some turret documentation (I think this is probably required to keep my designation after a long period of inactivity)

Thanks very much,
