Hi all,
My StuG is pretty much done. I drove it today in its "final form" ie
everythings in and ready to go. The marker however was not in because it's
being rebuilt. I was unsure if the motors would have enough power to pull
the extra weight of the batteries (36lbs of batteries) put there was. I did
run into a rather serious problem though, after about 1/2 an hour driving
around my yard, I blew one of the solid state relays. Luckily I had a spare
and got it swaped out.
So how would the ssr have blown? I have 1, 60amp fuse inline with the
batteries, so really the most one side can get is 30amps, unless I stalled
one track whilst turning? It might have just been a dudd ssr so I'll see how
this new one holds up.
The battery setup gives me 24ah at 24v so that is an easy hours worth of
driving. I still have not reached top speed yet (my yards to small) however
at about 3/4 it was EXTREMERLY FAST!!! I'm talking a good running pace.
The suspension worked flawlessly taking the impact out of all the bumps and
what not. I even drove it at about 3/4 speed over a brick (3") and it
coasted right over it, very minimal hull deflection! Plus it looks awsome
with all the wheels conforming to the ground.
I can see how proportional speed and suspension will extend the life of the
chassis and motors, less harsh on take off and bumps are absorbed.
I'll send pics and fotage when I find my camera:-( and I can take it some
where big enough to reach full speed.
