Steve,

Thanks for the reply.  Knowing that the current draw should be under 80A for both motors is very helpful.  That means that I could get away with 1 40A offboard SSR for each motor with the Anvilus speed controller.  As long as I fuse it like you did, that should keep the speed controller from frying from too much amperage.

Thanks also for the link to the RS80.  I'll definately look into it.

The Anvilus website recommends the D1D40 SSR, which is 40A.  It seems that the supply for them has dried up or at least I can't find anyone who stills sells them for cheap.  Mouser has them, but they're $58 a piece.  At that price, it would be worth it to look into the sidewinder or the RS80.  Does anyone have a lead on where they can be had for less cash?

Thanks again,

Jeremy

Also, does anyone have any real-world data on what kind of amperage the EVs pull at 24V?

The Cromwell is running two EVW's at 24 volts.  I have one 80A fuse wired before the controller.  I haven't blown the fuse yet.

I was also looking at the Sidewinder from robotpower.com.  It does everything I want my speed controller to do, but it's weighs in at a hefty $350.  Does anyone know of any similar speed controllers that are priced a little lower?

The RS80 controller has similar specs and priced at $275.  www.robotsolutions.com
