I can whole heartily recommend bronze bushings for the low
rpm roadwheels. Ball bearings IMHO are overkill for a roadwheel. The
bronze bushings you want to use are also known as Oilite bearings.
They are made of sintered bronze and are impregnated with oil. The 1/2"
bushings that surpluscenter.com sell are Oilite bearings. Oilite bearings
on a ground shaft are almost frictionless.
