It makes a HUGE difference. These things are regulated for a reason. Lets just say, I show up to my flying field with my new 1/4 scale Mustang that I have $2000 invested into and probably that many hours building it. (thats a reality) Now I am up and flying and all of a sudden I start taking "hits" (losing signal) on my plane and it goes in and is a total loss. Well it just so happens that down the street someone put an AIRCRAFT radio in their car, boat, tank or other GROUND vehicle and turned it on while I was in the air. The signal from your radio interfered with my signal and resulted in a total loss of my plane, with the possibility of seriously injuring someone or something. Now I am liable for the damages to the car that my 40lb airplane just slammed into causing $5000 worth of damage for a total of $7000 all because someone had the wrong radio. I know its tempting to use what you have and the above story is hypothetical, but it happens every day. 4-6 channel surface radios are cheap. $100-150. Do the right thing by using the right radio.

Ok, I know your not supposed to use an aircraft radio for ground use, but what difference would it really make? If your going to be flying a plane (potentially dangerous) opposed to a ground vehicle (ie.-tank, pretty much harmless), then you would think that the radio frequency wouldnt matter. Now, I've been flying and driving r/c models for over 5 years but this always comes into question. I know it may have to do with messing with full-scale aircraft, but I'm not sure.  As for me, I'm not into spending 100$ more on a 5 channel radio specifically for ground use. If someone could tell me why I would appreciate it.
