It should work well for any trailing arm suspension design. The real
beauty of the design is that it transfers the force directly from the
wheel axle to the suspension spring. Internally sprung designs transfer
the force from the wheel axle, to the suspension arm, to the arm pivot
axle, to an internal lever arm, and finally to a spring. More
cumbersome in my opinion.

The design is using 1/4" x 1 1/2" 6066 series aluminum bar stock and
lawn mower axle bolts. Yes, it is robust enough.
