Hello all, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm from New Hampshire and I stumbled
on the website while looking information on R/C Tanks, because I was interested
in the 1/24th scale airsoft tanks. However, the more I looked over the website
the more I realized that this is what I really wanted to do.
So, after some thought on the matter I've decided to construct a 1/6 scale
PzKpfw II Ausf C. Not the most effective choice, since it's only a 30/2 rating
tank, but I've always liked the look of that particular Panzer. It's also
compact and should be easy to transport in my car, which is a big selling point
over a larger tank (at least for me).
Anyways, I've already started gathering materials, and I'm shooting for a fully
loaded combat weight of 50 lbs or less. I plan to use 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood
reinforced with fiberglass (or possibly kevlar) for the basic hull and
superstructure construction, and I've ordered a pair of 12v DeWalt drill motors
and matching gear boxes from Robotcombat.com. Most likely I'll be using the Tri-
Pact style speed control, and Intralox tracks (assuming they can provide them
in 2" width).
I do have a question concerning the road wheels, however. I notice that some
tanks simply use fixed axles and others have suspension systems. I'm wondering
what kind of difference a working suspension makes in actual battle. Is it
really worth the extra hassle and complexity?
Thanks,
Adam
