As with any model hobby, total cost (construction, operation and 
maintenance) can span a huge range depending on which parts you build, 
buy, or scrounge.  Innovation can save or waste money, depending on how 
good your ideas are, but the real joy of the hobby comes from building 
something yourself and battling it successfully.

But, of all the other big R/C hobbies (car racing, boat racing, 
airplanes, ships, submarines) this is probably the least expensive 
because you can build a tank from virtually any material and from stock 
parts from the real-world.  Heck, junk yards alone have enough parts for 
hundreds of tanks.
