Well, if you have enough room in your hull, you could simply lengthen the 
final shaft so the cog extends past the rest of the gearing on that side, 
then put the motor assembly into your tank backwards with the final drive 
chain running past the front of the motor.

Or, tear down your assembly and put it back together as a mirror image of 
what you have now.
