Good old paper, pencil, and a ruler.
Although I do 3d modeling as a hobby, and for that I use a free program 
called Zanoza Modeller. It's not a CAD program, but I can use it as one. I 
don't think it can open or save any autocad formats though, mostly game 
formats and it's standard .z3d format.
