Subject: The Barbarians Battleground...Visited. Hey Robert,
.....I guess it should be "Howdy Partner" as the
Calgary Stampede is in full swing here in Calgary and its like we're living
in a huge "dude ranch".
Went down to Okotoks to meet Bob Hopkins this
afternoon. Interesting and very hospitable gent.....we shared a beer while
trading "lies" and looking at a few of his current and past projects(RC fishing
boat(with a trolling reel),an operational oil drilling rig,a 1:6 scale 21ST
Century RC tank, etc....lots of neat stuff).
Bob has fifteen(15) acres of land. There is an
area behind his quonset hut that looks good for a battleground. There
is a close-cropped grass area approximately 150 feet by 250 feet with quite
a few 6 - 10 foot high trees. Adjoining this open area is an area of
tall grass and small trees with 6 - 8 foot wide mowed paths through the area.
This adjoining area is approximately 250 feet by 100 feet.
Bob seems very keen on hosting "THE GATHERING" at
his property and is more than willing to open up his property to camping and
RVs/trailers. Bob expressed a real desire to do what it takes to make "THE
GATHERING" battleground a real success at his place!!!
Bob's property is located approximately one
kilometre north of Okotok's, Alberta on the service road running parallel to the
2A Highway(15 minutes south of Calgary, Alberta). Bob said he is going to
post some digital photos of the battleground and maps/directions to his
place.
Historical weather data from September 10 to 25,
2004 for this area indicate temperatures of 18-19 C, no precipitation and light
winds.
I suggest "THE GATHERING" take place the weekend of
September 17 & 18, 2005, with the main battle of "THE GATHERING" to
take place after lunch on Saturday(with Sunday being a "Rain Day").
Sunday could be more of a
"free-for-all" with a few short "skirmishes" in the morning and afternoon
depending on the desires of the participants in attendence.
How's that sound ??? Any suggestions, omissions,
deletions....??? Get back to me ASAP....so we can make the announcement of
the offical date and location of "THE GATHERING" and allow all
participants to make arrangements, book holidays, etc......
Robert, Jason...... could you guys get a firm
commitment from all participants of "THE GATHERING" and post all participants
intentions ASAP. Tx.
What about a simple BBQ or what
ever???

happen....I better get my tank finished" Mahalek
