The thing is that the teeth have to be attached to the track. So with
(ply)wood material that means you have to choose between placing the grain
perpendicular to the track, which probably means that it will split the
moment you screw it onto the track. With the grain parrallel to the track
(as I showed in the mentioned photos) there was a chance they would shear
off caused by the force (and they did :-) but a succesfull attachment was
very likely.
It's been a choice, and I took the best of the worst (or some saying, you'll
understand). With homogenous material like plastic you don't have these (or
experience less) problems.
