But then you can just avoid that line. I think the only way bombers will be 
effective is when everyone uses cameras to control their tank from a 
distance, then the bombers can fly with no danger to human life (maybe a 
tank's though;-). Even after this is it worth risking a really expensive 
plane which could potentially be brought down (ie crash) with one shot?

It would be great to see but much work would be needed...
