Unreliable markers have been my number one headache in combat and caused
me to loose more battle time than anything else.  My first marker was
just a POS.  The second had a finicky electronic trigger.  I could just
imagine the reliability issues with a homebuilt marker.  My advice is to
get a good reliable commercial (non-electronic) marker and trigger it
with a servo or door lock actuator.

Of course if you want to build a custom marker for the challenge that's
a different matter but be prepared for failure and frustration your next
battle.
