From personal experience I can't really argue. A main battle tank is a
hideously short-sighted beast which is why we need infantry escort in
built-up areas. However, that isn't to say a lightweight IFV wouldn't be in
its own in convoy escort missions (ever ridden in a "duce-and-a-half"? you
wanna talk engine noise!). Just something heavy enough to withstand
shrapnel and rifle fire and resistant to RPG-fire would likely be
sufficient. Heck, I'd feel better just with something with a little bit of
cover for the gunner! A HMMWV's gunner is horribly exposed to all manner of
badness. Pardon me, I seem to be babbling, my roomie left the TV on all
night so I don't think I quite got a proper sleep in (LOL). See you again
when I'm a little more lucid :)
