I thought about such a design a while back. I discounted it due to cost
(a 100+ hinges will add up), the fact I'd have to make a custom
sprocket, you'd have to figure a way to add guide horns, and finally
weight.
If none of the above matter to you I'm sure a hinge based track will
work fine. It would definitely have a squeaky scale sound to it. I'd
be afraid to drive it at anything above 3-4mph though.
