Bungee rubber is harder than the stuff you've been using. You can counter
sink the brads to a point where they will not gouge your track. The stiffer
rubber keeps it from doing that. As far as glue. I'm not sure what's
available in Australia but talk to some marine supply places and tell them
you want to glue rubber to wood and see what they suggest.
