Smaller (cheaper) category [TANKS]

I have an extremely limited budget (student) but I would like to get into rc tank combat. Is anyone else interested in a new category of mini vehicles perhaps twelve to eightteen inches long armed with airsoft paintball markers? They would still be scratch-built (no prebuilt airsoft tanks) but would be much cheaper and require a smaller battlefield.
