Mode 2 means the indexed throttle and rudder is on the left stick.  Mode 1, the European standard, is the opposite.  With many radios (usually higher end) you are able to move the ratcheting device and centering springs from one stick to the other to change modes.

OK, I have been out of the RC arena for a few years and I don't know what they mean when a radio is "mode 2" only......Any simple explanations???
