  Oak better be good enough, it's what I'm using for the Valentine's track.  
Though I'm gonna staple rubber pads (made from an old inner tube) to the 
tread surface to provide a replacable wear surface instead of grinding on 
the wood.

  Sound feasable to the old-timers out there?  I'm still pretty new to 
building the things (though I got pretty proficient at breaking them in the 
military, lol)
