Hello All from Penna! Anyway, if I recall correctly, I believe a German
counter-attack was broken up by naval gunfire at Anzio. Ordnance was
not really aimed at a specific tank, but enough was sent on the "fire
mission" to sweep the area clear of any troops and soft vehicles. I
don't think it took a direct hit from an 8 inch round to destroy a tank
(the one with your name on it) but I am sure the random "to whom it may
concern" did it's share of damage, at least enough to throw the plan off
schedule.
I enjoy the discussion, am trying to start up an LVT (A)-1. (I guess I
am still a ship builder at heart) and appreciate all the info, tips and
guidance! keep up the good work!

Back in the eighties, the ship I was stationed on was equipped to fire
experimental laser guided 5" shells. We were hitting moving tanks
from
15 miles away. From the stories told, there wasn't much left of a
tank
after taking a 5" shell.
Could we be seeing a confluence of the tank and warship hobbies? ;-)
