well I found the reason why I'e been sreading gears in my stuart, TOO heavy, and I beat the crap out of it every time I use it. So, because of its unreliability at least with every thing I've loaded it up with to be a some what worht tank, it is being switch to support vehicle. How?
some of you probably know, but for those that don't, the M4 and M5 high speed tractors are Stuarts at least in powetrian and supension. And when Ifirst got my stuart I screwed around with the gearboxes, rearranging the gears to have a higher output rpm. Well this worked fine when it didn't have two batteries and an air compressor and all the other crap, but when the addition weight was added it would lurch and then hum then smoke, put an amp meter on it, well it pulled more than 10 per motor I know that. Keep in mind these are 29 turn 550 size motors 10 amps is ALOT parictularly when the input voltage is nearly double what they are suppose to run at.So i switched them back to stock slow gearing and it worked untill a few to many full skid turns in the grass. So this week the upper hull comes off and a new high speed tractor upper hull goes on.
and the weight will be back down again. I will try to post some pics of the gear box mod which doubles the speed even on stock motors, and triples it when you use 1/10 scale monster truck motors (same size, just meant to run on 7.2-8.4v but they go even faster on 12v)
thanks for reading my really long message.
