I laid a piece of lightweight fibreglass cloth along the bottom of the
tread and pushed it down into the two teeth, using smoothcast resin. I
then handed some un-reinforced treads, some reinforced treads and a
hammer to Tom "The Fireman" Tanner (fireman can break virtually
anything). With only a single standard whack he cracked the
un-reinforced treads. He had to take a pretty hard swing to damage the
reinforced tread.
So, a little extra time adding reinforcement doesn't hurt.
