Having spent the past 5 hours reconditioning my tank I
thought I'd share some of yesterdays experiences.
1. Never allow someone to drive your tank repeatedly
into rainfilled potholes. Actually the Panzer handled
the water rather well, only slight leakage near the
bow, but the slamming down onto the paved surface
ripped out screws and loosened bolts. That's what
ended up jamming the rotate mechanism.
2. Old paint on a cold day= Jammed barrel. Actually 8
balls jammed into barrel in addition to the one
chopped up in the gun . I guess there goes any
thoughts of winter battles. Of course while it was
still functioning the hits we laid on Karl's Stuart
looked really cool. That's because the paint
coagulated and hung on in really nice glops. It was
beeeutiful man. Thank you Karl for allowing your
Stuart to be brutalized.
3. I think we have a great location for our battles.
Lots of gently rolling terrain, some Ardennes sections
had Frank drooling, and some sections that you could
slide a tank into a hulldown position. Thanks again to
Karl for arranging the meeting.
4. Even the airplane guys liked driving the tanks. One
is going out to buy a Stuart, still not sure why, but
he was excited. I think we made some new friends and
everyone that attended had a good time.
