Sorry to here your Dad is in that mess. My son and a large number of my
friends and employees are also deployed there. Yesterday was my son's 22n'd
birthday. His unit spent the day in a firefight. Late last night his
buddies make him a candle lit MRE and wished him HB. I hope he got the
bottle I sent him to celebrate a tad better. He's a Marine and very proud
of it - for being a jar head. His ole man has been with the Army since the
mid-70s. I'm a civilian though - thank God. In our line of the buisness we
can still get deployed though. Thankfully I'm an old buzzard and let the
young people enjoy the sun all they wish. :)
On a better note regarding your Stryker question. That's with a Y for the
vehicle. Striker with an I is a missle system mounted on a HMMWV. My
office, not my team, manages both. Stryker is the newest Army Cav vehicle
that is supposed to replace the Bradley - in like a billion years. Bradley
was supposed to replace the M113 which is also still around by the gobs. :)
Styker is wheeled, lightly armored, and lightly gunned. It's built in
Canada near Toronto. It looks a lot like like the Marines LAV. Of course
we Grunts and Jarheads couldn't agree on a standard design. We also manage
the LAV for the Marines. They fielded the Styker at Lewis a few years back,
replacing their Abrams, which didn't make the Heavy Armor is king bunch with
a good feeling. A tank will kick a Stykers butt. But their mission
changed, as has some many others, to not fighting other heavy mech forces to
rather fighting light cav or grunts only stuff - hello Iraq. Here's a
website: http://www.army.mil/features/stryker/
Wishing your Dad the best as well as for all our folks in harms way. They
are just doing their duty.
