Tim Mc,

Over the years I have heard a variety of different
terms for tracked vehicles. If possible, please
provide standard TACOM terminology.

1) What is the official term for tabs on the inside
of track that bear against sides of road wheels to prevent
throwing track ?

"center guides" or "guide horns" or "bells" or "tracking tabs" or ...

Most WW II German and Russian track had these
cast into the inside surface of the links. On most
US track both WW II and modern, I believe that they
are called center guides and are held between the track blocks.

2) What is the official term for when track comes off the
road wheels, or sprocket, or tension idler ?

"derailing" or "throwing track" or ...

Although I do not know the official term, my Hetzer and I are
quite accomplished at this feat.

3) What is the official term for skid steering when one
track is in reverse and the other track is in forward ?

"neutral turn" or "full-skid steer" or "zero radius turn" or ...

4) What is the official term for skid steering when one
track is locked and the other track is moving ?

"locked track steer" or "half-skid steer" or ...

5) What is the term for "pain-in-the-..." hobbyists who
ask silly questions like those above?

Thanks,
Joe
