Using two 3/4 x 3/4 inch aluminum hollow square
tubes running along each side of the bottom of the
hull has worked great. The 1/2 inch DIA axles are
very strong. I have never had any axle or undercarriage
damage since I replaced my plexiglass axle mounts
(and I drive like a madman). You might not need the
1/8 x 1 inch vertical straps if you can bolt the tubes
strongly onto the bottom of the hull.

My road wheels are 5 inch DIA and my track is
about 1/4 inch thick so I get over 2.25 inches of
ground clearance below the tubes. I would not
recommend it for tanks with small road wheels
(Panzer III or IV).

I do get hung up (high centered) occasionally on
large dirt clods or very thick clumps of grass, but
I believe less often than the other tanks. I do not
venture into the very tall grass where crazy Tigers
roam because my plastic track does not have cleats
and is not as aggressive as TTS or attachment chain.

This axle mount is quick, simple, strong and reliable.

Joe
