It won't be a problem, as long as you use a rigid inner part (wood, metal or plastic) to keep the tension on the track.

Has any one thought of doing a TTS without using wood on the outside of the track? 
I have a large amount of 1/4 inch thick rubber which I think would be perfect for the outer tread.  It is very stiff and does not tear easily.  Instead of 4 pop rivets I would probibly use six to secure the two halves.
