Subject: How about Second WW1 tank?Well, since the title of first WW1 tank has been taken by the wonderful Mk.V*, perhaps I'll manage to take second?
I've done some work, and kept my tank with a low profile amongst people. And now I feel I should announce it. I don't have a digital camera, or a scanner so I'm saving pictures of my tank for when I get it to move under it's own power.
For now though, I have some of the hull framework, specific plans on what I'm gonna do with the hull (1/4" pressed plywood with an integral frame/chasses for extra strength). I also have some prototype suspension, which I must say is acting wonderfully. the full drive train and lower hull are the next two things to go imediatly into work.
Now that I kept you waiting. I'd like to announce that I've finnaly settled upon doing a Char FCM 2C heavy French tank from 1918. It never saw combat in WW1, and all of the ones built were destroyed on their train transporters by the Germans when they took France in WWII. But it did have Operational French service from 1918 to 1940.
My model is going to be 1/6th scale. So the battle model will be about 5 foot 9 inches long, and hopefully weigh less then 200 lbs. So Perhaps I can take largest/heaviest tank title too?
And one question. Can anyone tell me how well a regular car battery should work? I want to use 2 of them and add a solar battery charger for trucks (Saw it on the TV Show "Trucks!") to keep the batteries charged. An ambitious project, but I think it's worth it.
