Here's a nice little moment that I thought everyone might appreciate.
We had a meeting today between a number of battlers from our hobby
(Will, Steve, Joe and myself) and some guys from a 1/16 scale club in
Virginia in order to exchange notes about tank modeling, show off our
tanks and otherwise BS throughout the afternoon. We had lots of fun
talking about various aspects of both hobbies and, of course, drove a
couple vehicles from both clubs around the Tri-Pact Medium Difficulty
Proving Grounds (TPMDPG).
While we were driving them around, a neighbor and her 9-yr old son came
to see "all the neat tanks" as the boy exclaimed. Steve handed him the
controls of the T34 and, quite naturally, he started driving it around
looking for something (a) to run into and (b) to shoot at. His reaction
was well within the parameters of expectation, but his mother's was
quite unusual. Instead of the typical "kind of childish", "boys will be
boys", or the dreaded, "you'll shoot your eye out" comment we've all
learned to expect from the opposite sex, this mother stated that she
thought such a hobby was fantastic, and that it would provide a great
way to teach kids about engineering. She wanted to know when her son
and husband could attend a battle. And, as they walked away, she
agreed with her son when he proclaimed that "those are cool tanks".
R/C Tank Combat ... recommended by Mom.
