German tankers with multiple kills applied single rings for individual kills
from the muzzle-brake back along the barrel.  When the crew scored large
numbers of kills they grouped the kills in wider rings with a number on the
side denoting the value of the band for example a wide ring with a 10 on the
side denoting 10 kills or a wider band with 50 denoting 50 kills etc.

I've seen it used on Tigers, Stug3's, Hornisse, Panthers and PzIV's
